Tackling the phenomenon of the Suicide Bomber

Course Description

This course will focus primarily on the methods of countering suicide terrorism. The module starts with an overview of the history of modern terrorism and the analysis of active terrorist groups. Students will be given detailed information about the motivation, preparation, equip¬ment and techniques used by the suicide terrorist. Students will gain a deeper understanding of suicide terrorists and therefore improve their abilities of correctly identifying and countering the threat.

Course Objectives

• Gain an understanding of the current suicide terrorist threat
• Learn the procedures to follow, Terrorist strategy, psychology& operational methods
• Gain the skills to identify suspicious circumstances and signs
• Have knowledge of suicide bomber IEDs & technical aspects of attacks
• Gain an understanding of Chemical, Biological & Radiological Threats
• Learn methods of profiling a Suicide Terrorist
• Learn the importance of Security Technologies in helping counter the “walk-in” suicide bomber & suicide hijacker threats
• Determine the factors which persuade an individual to become Suicide Terrorist
• Analysis of Past events in Terrorism
• Identification & detection of suspect “terrorists” using specialized Profiling techniques
• Write a procedures plan to be follow for those working in Cargo Secure Area
• Evaluate the potential of increasing Security in with regards to Terrorism, by researching information, interpretation, critical analysis and evaluation skills
• Demonstrate the ability to act as a Security personnel against Suicide Terrorist and the ability to implement the recommended course of action
• Develop a range of strategies and operational skills that can be applied in preventing Suicide terrorism in vulnerable areas

Course Structure

The course is made up of Classroom, E-Learning & Assessment stages. Students aiming to gain credits from Middlesex University must complete all stages.

Classroom Stage
The classroom stage involves 3 days of intensive training from the SSTC’s team of expert security tutors. The tutors will impart their knowledge and skills using their own experience in the security industry as well as through the use of advanced security technology made available to them through Renful Premier Technologies.

E-Learning Stage
The E-Learning stage of the course involves 12 weeks of online self-learning. The student is provided a referral bibliography and the use of a range of E-learning technologies made available by Renful Premier Technologies from which they will gain the knowledge and skills required to pass the assessments.

Duration: 12 weeks from end of classroom stage end.

Assessment Stage
Assessments will be carried out both during the classroom and e-learning stages of the course.
